New Roadside Support Vehicles enhanced by bott.

Four new Mercedes Sprinter vans used by midlands-based rescue and recovery specialist Arthur Jones Motors have been prepared and enhanced by bott.

The company works to a number of key performance indicators and wanted support vehicles that would enable fitters to respond quickly and complete as many repairs as possible at the roadside. It needed four vans with an identical specification to include an internal workshop area and equipment such as bottlejacks, cutting and welding equipment, lighting, generators and jump start facilities. The overall weight of the van could not exceed 3.5 tonnes so that the company could remain within current regulations and the equipment had to be stored safely and securely while remaining accessible. The company had previously prepared its own vans but recognised that it could do better by working with a commercial vehicle enhancement specialist.

Design engineers from bott visited the Arthur Jones Motors site to assess the overall requirement and the two companies then
agreed a specification. bott advised on the choice of vehicles, the Mercedes Sprinter 313, and devised the layout of the vehicles. bott liaised with the commercial vehicle dealer to arrange delivery before completing the enhancement work at its facility in Ashby. They also prepared and applied vehicle graphics working to designs and ideas provided by Arthur Jones Motors.

A key consideration during the enhancement was the weight distribution inside the vans. Some of the equipment is heavy and bott used its experience and engineering expertise to devise the best possible layout to help ensure the vehicles are safe and stable while being driven and at the roadside.

bott recommended its Normline range to help ensure tools and other items are stored neatly, safely and securely when the vehicle is in motion but are readily available when needed. This promotes productivity because less time is spent locating items and reduces costly damage to tools and equipment during transit. It also helps users comply with health and safety regulations and guidelines for the stowage and transportation of equipment when working from a vehicle. Arthur Jones Motors expects that, like many other bott customers, it will be able to transfer these storage units to replacement vehicles when the new vans reach the end of their projected working life.
